Scenes Cut From the US Screening on PBS

  • The end of the scene involving Sam's landlady and Foyle has been cut, including Foyle's "I'm sorry about your house, Mrs Harrison". While looking at the box which contained the landlady's coins, Foyle implies it wasn't the best place to keep them. This makes the change of scene to Sam sitting in Foyle's office very abrupt.

  • The end of the Lewes' dinner conversation is missing. Foyle says that though he followed in his father's footsteps, he expects his son won't.

  • Sam is trying to get Milner to dance in the kitchen when some dance music is played on the radio after dinner. Milner is laughing and protesting that he couldn't dance even when he had his leg. Jane arrives home and Milner nervously tells her it 'isn't what she thinks'. Obviously this scene helps to explain why Sam is homeless again and sleeping in the cells.

  • Foyle visits Oxford to interview an elderly professor. This professor taught Andrew and there is mention of his career in the RAF. The professor also remembers Paige and Hunter who were there at the same time. He says they got into particular trouble because they stole a car, stripped it down to see how it worked, then put it back together again. Hunter left Oxford with a first class degree in physics. Cut.

  • Foyle returns to the Lewes' house to interview Paige, but is kept waiting for ages in the hall. Cut.

  • Sam is yawning while driving the car on the way to the AFS station to interview Kenny Hunter. Foyle asks her to try and stay awake until they reach their destination.

  • In the station Milner assures Sam that Jane now understood what was going on the night before and asks her where she went. Sam replies vaguely that she "found somewhere." Cut.

  • When Elizabeth visits Foyle, the part of the conversation where she asks Foyle if he thinks Paige is involved in the murder and says that he's very important to the war effort has been cut.

  • After Elizabeth's visit to Foyle's home, Foyle takes a moment to gaze at Rosalind's photograph. The scene is still there, but it has been cut short.

  • As Foyle and Sam drive up to where the German spy is being held, she jokingly asks what to do if Foyle isn't let out again. Foyle tells Sam that she will have to take over. This exchange has been cut.

  • The final scene at Doctor Redmonds' house when Redmond accuses his wife of being a spy. The scene has been cut right after the slap, which leaves out the doctor telling her that he'll never speak to her again, that when he enters a room, he wants her to leave it etc.

Many thanks to the avid FW viewers at tmkb for noting the cut scenes.
