Dearie me, it's Marjory!
Angela Thorne was tempted back into acting to appear in
Foyle's War.
"I don't work much now at all and it has to be something pretty special to tempt me back. But when I was offered
Foyle's War, I jumped at the chance. I have watched it from the beginning and absolutely adored it, so given the opportunity I decided I couldn't miss it. It was only three days filming but I enjoyed every minute."
Angela plays Lady Anne Messinger, wife of MI5 chief Sir Giles (Ronald Pickup). Foyle (Michael Kitchen) discovers the charred body of their son after an explosion.
"Lady Anne is a very contained character. Obviously she was very fond of her son and his death is very sad. She's a rather submissive character as far as her husband is concerned but at the same time they love each other and are very much a pair.
"She's very English, traditional and tight-lipped. Even though she is going through such a sad time, she doesn't show her emotions in case it lets the side down.
"I loved all the clothes as she was dressed very elegantly and traditionally, with a quite tweedy, English look. All my costumes were original, down to the shoes and gloves. In one scene I have a pale suit, and another is a wonderful austere black coat and hat. It really does help to have the authentic clothing as it informs your body language."
Adds Angela: "I suppose I am like the characters I play. I'm pretty English and although I'm not madly traditional, I look and sound like the characters I play. I always seem to get offered these parts, but I'm glad that they are nice women and popular with viewers."
Angela starred in
To The Manor Born, Three Up Two Down and
Farrington of the F.O. and her other credits include
Noah's Ark, Cold Comfort Farm, The Good Guys, Dunrulin' and
Midsomer Murders.
